What is Rooibos Tea?

Rooibos, also known as red bush, is a perennial leguminous shrub. For rooibos tea, the needle-like leaves and young shoots are used. After harvesting, they are cut into pieces of around 0.5 cm and fermented in the sun. This process gives the tea its characteristic reddish colour and its mild, pleasant aroma.

What does Rooibos Tea taste like?

Rooibos develops its distinctive malty and slightly sweet flavour through fermentation. It has notes reminiscent of vanilla and cocoa husk.

Why choose Rooibos Tea from SONNENTOR?

Rooibos tea is a naturally caffeine-free alternative to black tea. It is exceptionally smooth and can be enjoyed throughout the day. It is particularly popular with families, as it is suitable for children and expectant mothers. Whether served chilled in summer or as a comforting hot drink in winter, rooibos is always a delight – naturally sweet and with no need for added sugar.

Where is Rooibos Tea grown?

Rooibos is grown in South Africa, where it is considered a national drink, but it is becoming increasingly popular worldwide.

How is Rooibos Tea prepared?

For best results, use one heaped teaspoon of rooibos per cup and allow it to steep for around 5 to 10 minutes. As rooibos contains no tannins, a longer infusion will intensify the flavour without making it bitter. Its full-bodied taste can be enhanced with milk and honey.

Additional preparation tips: On hot summer days, rooibos tea can also be enjoyed cold. Get creative: try adding coconut milk and apple juice, grape juice or pineapple juice to the cooled tea. Slices of lemon or orange, as well as pieces of strawberry or peach, make for a perfect caffeine-free iced tea.
